Ondrej Tucek's Found Object Exhibition Explores Urban Waste and Entropy in Prague

exhibition · 2026-04-19

From June to October 2004, Ondrej Tucek showcased his found object artworks at the Philosophy Faculty building located on Námesti Jana Palacha in Prague, under the curation of Ondrej Hrab. The display included items such as plastic bottles, steel wires, and partially eaten biscuits, examining the impact of urban waste on aesthetic creation. Tucek’s pieces, which have been exhibited in various locations, evoke a sense of both fragility and menace, forming "found relations" that gain critical significance despite their lack of practical purpose. In a Nov Prostor interview, Tucek reflected on how individuals search for stable truths within found objects. The exhibition raises the question of whether discarded materials can attain redemption, highlighting the complexities born from neglect and the radical détournement of humanistic ideals.
