Ondes: Sound and Light Architecture at CAPC Bordeaux
The exhibition 'ondes: architectures de son, images de lumière' at CAPC Musée d'art contemporain in Bordeaux (4 December 2001 – 17 February 2002) explores sound as a tool for spatial investigation and light as a means of image creation. Curated around works from the collection supplemented by loans, the show takes its starting point from Max Neuhaus's 1993 piece 'Deux passages, entre ombre et lumière' installed in the museum's staircase. Harald Szeemann described the work as transforming walls, vaults, and stairs into a projection screen for the imagination. The exhibition juxtaposes works that, while solitary, communicate through shared concerns: Céleste Boursier-Mougenot's floating porcelain in pools, Anne-Marie Jugnet's white neon words, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster's cabinet of pulsions, Michel Aubry's musical instruments, Philippe Parreno's speaking stone, and Mariko Mori's biogenetic fairy. David Boéno's cone of string cut by a light plane prompts contemplation of cause and effect, echoed in Herman Pitz's resin water drops, Tonet Amoros's larval light forms, Pascal Broccholicchi's Raccorama 4 with sounds and mica powder cones, and Claude Lévêque's red neon 'Nous sommes heureux'.
