Ome Dezin and Lumens Renovate 1990s Hollywood Hills Residence

architecture-design · 2026-08-15

Ome Dezin, a Los Angeles-based studio established by Jesse Rudolph and Joelle Kutner, collaborated with design platform Lumens to revamp a Hollywood Hills home from the 1990s. Initially crafted by architect Jeff Mills, the residence showcased a mix of mid-century modern and brutalist styles but had been transformed into an art gallery, losing its character. The renovation reinstated the original architectural elements, incorporating a gym, converting an upstairs guest room into a primary bathroom, and adding an exterior sauna and full bathroom. While limestone flooring was retained, new wood cladding, tall baseboards, and richly veined marble were introduced for warmth. The kitchen boasts a unique blue stone and a rust-toned island with an aged finish. Iconic furnishings by Frank Gehry, Ingo Maurer, and Gaetano Pesce were sourced from Lumens. Key lighting features include gold Ingo Maurer pendants in the kitchen, along with pieces from Foscarini and In Common With. Lumens CMO Dana Gers commended the project for its collected and personal feel. Ome Dezin has also renovated a 1960s A. Quincy Jones house in Brentwood and a mid-century residence in Laurel Hills with furniture designer Willet. Photography by William Jess Laird.
