Omar Hassan's Immersive Video Installation 'Exit Lights' at Milan Malpensa Airport

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Milan Malpensa Airport's Terminal 1 exhibition space, La Porta di Milano, has unveiled a new immersive video installation titled 'Exit Lights' by Milanese artist Omar Hassan (b. 1987). Curated by Mariacristina Ferraioli, the work occupies most of the venue and explores the artist's creative process, centering on his signature tool: the spray can. Hassan, a graduate of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera under Alberto Garutti, blends influences from action painting (Fontana, Pollock, Manzoni) with his own background as a boxer, which he calls 'the metaphor of life par excellence.' His series 'Iniezioni' and 'Lights' exemplify this fusion. Ferraioli describes the installation as one where 'light emerges from darkness in the most classic pictorial tradition, but with an unusual expressive force intensified by the canvas's dimensions.' The project follows previous exhibitions at La Porta di Milano, including Fausto Melotti's 'Sette Savi,' Marino Marini's 'Cavallo e il Cavaliere,' and Max Dorigo's video installation as part of 'Arte per l'umanità' curated by Aurora Scotti. Hassan's work aims to invite the public into the heart of his creative process, elevating street art into painting.
