Omar Hassan: From Boxing Ring to Canvas with Punch-Art

artist · 2026-04-27

Milanese artist Omar Hassan, born in 1987 to an Egyptian father and Italian mother, has developed a unique painting technique using his fists instead of brushes, blending action painting with his boxing background. After a decade of boxing, he was diagnosed with diabetes, ending his professional career before it began. He then studied at Brera under Alberto Garutti, where he channeled his boxing discipline into the series "Breaking Through." Discovered by critic Vittorio Sgarbi in 2015, his career took off with exhibitions in Tokyo, London, New York, Miami, and Singapore. His works are now owned by Spike Lee and Sharon Stone. In 2021, he published a book of 11 personal stories titled "Per le strade" (Baldini & Castoldi), with an audio contribution by rapper Mondomarcio and a text by friend Marco D'Amore. He will present the book in summer 2021, followed by a solo show in Berlin and an exhibition in Dubai in autumn.
