Omar Hassan Enters Fashion with Sustainable, Genderless Sweatshirt
Omar Hassan, the Milanese artist and former boxer, has launched a fashion collaboration with FUTURECLO, presented at Hangar Manzoni in Pescarenico, Lecco. The project centers on a 100% cotton, genderless, made-to-order sweatshirt produced only upon purchase, eliminating waste. Each piece is numbered and features a QR code tracing its supply chain and certifications. The design is derived from the last of Hassan's 121 boxing-glove paintings. Hassan emphasizes the ethical value of the collaboration, citing true eco-sustainability as a key motivator after rejecting many previous offers. The sweatshirt is hand-sewn by elderly seamstresses, whom Hassan met personally. He sees the garment as both wearable and collectible, appealing to collectors aged 80 and young clients alike. Hassan, who also sings, composes music, and writes, insists he remains a painter first, though he is open to future fashion projects. The collaboration was initiated by FUTURECLO, not Hassan, who let his art dialogue with fashion.
