Omar Al Gurg's Kilimanjaro Photographs at Lawrie Shabibi

exhibition · 2026-04-23

At the Lawrie Shabibi gallery in Dubai, there's an exciting new exhibit titled 'Everyman's Mountain,' featuring the first solo show of Emirati artist Omar Al Gurg, born in 1995. This showcase includes a series of stunning photographs taken during a six-day trek on Kilimanjaro in 2021, highlighting the mountain's rich ecosystems, from its lush forests to its snowy peaks. Al Gurg's work shines a light on critical environmental challenges like glacier melting and wildfire impacts. His goal is to fill the gap in contemporary photography that represents Kilimanjaro’s diverse environments. Notably, Al Gurg, who launched the design studio Modu Method, will also curate the fifth UAE Designer Exhibition in 2024, with a related publication in progress.
