OMA's Holland Green: Luxury Residences Around London's Design Museum

architecture-design · 2026-05-05

On November 24, 2016, the New Design Museum in London was inaugurated within the historic Commonwealth Institute building. John Pawson was responsible for the interior design, while OMA and Allies & Morrison managed the restoration of the roof and facade. This initiative is part of the Holland Green urban regeneration project led by developer Stuart Lipton, which includes three upscale residential blocks comprising 54 units and 40,000 square meters. The funding for the restoration was partly sourced from the sale of apartments. OMA was engaged in 2007, with construction commencing in 2010. The varying heights of the blocks harmonize with the urban landscape, and their facades showcase vertical rows of windows. Amenities include a cinema, gym, pool, spa, and shared parking, complemented by a public square that enhances cultural vibrancy.
