OMA and Solidnature turn a Milan Design Week supermarket into stone

exhibition · 2026-05-22

In April 2026, during Milan Design Week, AMO/OMA and Solidnature unveiled 'Il Sonno', an imaginative supermarket constructed entirely from natural stone, encompassing everything from shelves to food items. The project, directed by AMO's Samir Bantal, aimed to highlight the expressive qualities of stone while encouraging a more deliberate shopping experience. From now until 21 June 2026, 12 exclusive items from this installation can be pre-ordered, featuring unique offerings like onyx bananas, red marble steaks, travertine sandwiches, and Flamingo Nebula marble milk bottles, each distinct due to the natural variations in stone. Solidnature's David Mahyari noted the sustainability, durability, and authenticity of stone as a viable alternative to disposable products, with prices beginning at €90.
