Olympic Agora to Launch in Beijing for 2022 Winter Games

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The Olympic Foundation for Culture and Heritage will launch a new Olympic Agora in Beijing for the 2024 Winter Olympics, following its debut in Tokyo during the 2020 Summer Games. The Tokyo edition, held in the historic Nihonbashi district, featured sculptural and multimedia installations by international artists including Xavier Veilhan, Rinko Kawauchi, Makoto Tojiki, and Moment Factory. Veilhan's permanent site-specific sculpture 'The Audience' comprised five life-sized human figures of diverse ages, genders, and nationalities. The project aims to promote Olympic values through exhibitions and digital programs, especially given the pandemic-induced closed-door games. IOC President Thomas Bach emphasized the close link between culture and sport as universal languages. Virtual tours of the Tokyo Agora are available until October 15, 2021. The Beijing edition is already in development.
