Oltreprima: Painting Meets Photography at Bologna's Fondazione del Monte
The Fondazione del Monte in Bologna hosts 'Oltreprima. La fotografia dipinta nell’arte contemporanea', a group exhibition curated by Fabiola Naldi and Maura Pozzati exploring the relationship between painting and photography. Featuring 19 artists, many works are shown for the first time. Highlights include Ida Tursic & Wilfried Mille's layered photograph of Pier Paolo Pasolini and Maria Callas, Federico Pietrella's powdery painting, Arnulf Rainer's convulsive gestures, a small Gerhard Richter piece, and Luigi Ontani's self-portrait as a band musician. Marcello Jori pays homage to the late Roberto Daolio alongside Paul Klee. Flavio Favelli presents a rainbow flag in a sumptuous frame, while John Baldessari's deconstructed images appear on another wall. The curators emphasize artists who transcend media boundaries, prioritizing conceptual intent where gesture and snapshot coexist. The exhibition references Roland Barthes's 'Camera Lucida' and avoids smartphone photography unless used for sharing the show's concept.
