Oltre il buio: Contemporary Art at Rocca di Angera on Lake Maggiore
The exhibition 'Oltre il buio' (Beyond the Dark) opened at the Rocca Borromea di Angera on Lake Maggiore, curated by Alberto Salvadori in collaboration with Galleria Franco Noero. Fifteen contemporary artists present works across three levels of the Scaligera wing, exploring light, nature, and the coexistence of man and environment. The show includes pieces by Henrik Håkansson, Mark Handforth, Jason Dodge, Simon Starling, Mike Nelson, Robert Mapplethorpe, Jim Lambie, Henrik Olesen, Sam Falls, Lothar Baumgarten, Jac Leirner, Pablo Bronstein, Lara Favaretto, Piero Gilardi, and Francesco Vezzoli. The castle, restored between 2015 and 2017 by Princes Vitaliano and Marina Borromeo Arese, has hosted contemporary art projects since 2018. The exhibition runs in the frescoed halls of the Scaligera wing, named after Bernabò Visconti's wife Regina della Scala.
