Olnick Spanu Collection Debuts in Italy with Arte Povera Show in Cagliari

The Olnick Spanu Collection, a private American collection of Italian art, is being exhibited in Italy for the first time at the Palazzo di Città in Cagliari. The exhibition, titled 'Arte Povera superstar a Cagliari,' runs alongside a permanent collection at the Musei Civici. The collection, which includes over 400 Arte Povera works, 500 Murano glass pieces, and a library of 5,000 publications, is housed at the Magazzino Italian Art Foundation in Cold Spring, New York, a converted computer warehouse designed by Spanish architect Miguel Quismondo. The Cagliari show features 15 works by 12 artists, including Alighiero Boetti, Pier Paolo Calzolari, Gilberto Zorio, Jannis Kounellis, Giuseppe Penone, Mario Merz, Marisa Merz, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Luciano Fabbro, and Giulio Paolini. The exhibition was strongly supported by Paola Mura, director of the Musei Civici. Additionally, a photographic project by Marco Anelli, 'Building Magazzino,' documents the transformation of the Magazzino Italian Art space with over 20,000 shots, 27 of which are on display alongside the Arte Povera works. The collection is directed by Vittorio Calabrese.
