Olivier Mosset's Minimalist Installation at MAMO, Marseille

The MAMO art center in Marseille, founded in 2013 by designer and artist Ora Ïto, celebrates its fifth anniversary with an installation by Swiss artist Olivier Mosset (born 1944, Bern). Located on the rooftop terrace of Le Corbusier's Cité Radieuse, the exhibition follows previous interventions by Daniel Buren, Dan Graham, Felice Varini, and Jean Pierre Raynaud. Mosset, a member of the BMPT group alongside Buren, Michel Parmentier, and Niele Toroni, presents his most minimalist work to date, which has paradoxically become the most popular among visitors. The exhibition, titled "Untitled," begins indoors with a single work: a Harley Davidson '74 Panhead motorcycle from 1957, modified by the artist with reflective paint on the seat and side panels. This piece references Mosset's time in Arizona and his shift from black circles on white backgrounds to a new abstraction influenced by plastic surfaces, car finishes, and ship hulls. Outdoors, two large metallic surfaces are installed on the terrace: a smaller one on the stage steps and an 18-meter horizontal panel. These faux-monochromes interact with Mediterranean light, shifting colors from pink to violet, blue to green, yellow to orange, reflecting the surrounding atmosphere and Le Corbusier's architecture. The exhibition runs until September 30, 2018, at MAMO, 280 Boulevard Michelet, Marseille.
