The film, which Wilde directed and stars in alongside Seth Rogen, Edward Norton, and Penélope Cruz, premiered in limited theaters on June 26 before expanding nationwide on July 10. Adapted from Cesc Gay's 2020 Spanish film 'The People Upstairs,' the screenplay was penned by Will McCormack and Rashida Jones. It grossed $24.3 million domestically and $18.6 million internationally, with a production budget of $12 million. The film boasts a 97% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes from 267 reviews and an 89% audience rating from over 1,000 ratings. Wilde shared at the 79th Locarno Film Festival that she had to advocate for a theatrical release, as financiers often prefer streaming options for higher payouts. She expressed gratitude that her financier supported her theatrical vision. 'The Invite' will be available for purchase at $24.99 on platforms like Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home, and YouTube Movies & TV, with rentals priced at $19.99 for 48 hours. Currently, the film is still showing in 342 theaters across the country.
