Olivia Dean nominated, Lily Allen snubbed in Mercury Prize shortlist

The shortlist for the 2026 Mercury Prize has been revealed, showcasing 12 albums competing for the £25,000 prize. Among the nominees is Olivia Dean, recognized for her second album, 'The Art of Loving', which previously secured album of the year honors at both the Brits and Mobo Awards. At 84, Sir Paul McCartney earns his first Mercury nomination for 'The Boys of Dungeon Lane'. Other contenders include Suede, Jade, Raye, Nia Archives, Dave, Florence + the Machine, Kojey Radical, Knats, Dove Ellis, and the War Child compilation 'Help (2)'. Notably missing is Lily Allen, whose album 'West End Girl' was well-received, along with Harry Styles and Gorillaz. The winner will be announced on 22 October at Newcastle's Utilita Arena, chosen by a panel of 12 jurors, including Afrodeutsche, Jamie Cullum, and Will Hodgkinson. Last year’s winner was Sam Fender.
