Olgiati Donation Showcases 59 Works at MASI Lugano

The exhibition 'Noi e il Masi' at MASI Lugano presents 59 of the 77 works donated by collectors Giancarlo and Danna Olgiati. The show opens with Christian Boltanski's installation 'Zeyt' (2001), alongside pieces by Roberto Ciaccio and Martin Disler, exploring precarity, memory, and identity. The second room features Liu Ding's accumulation of golden skulls and a notable group of works by Edmondo Dobrzanski, a rediscovered Ticino artist. A philosophical section on language includes photographs by Shannon Ebner, Adriana Beretta, and historical images by Feininger, Schawinsky, and Veronesi. Further rooms juxtapose works by Loredana Sperini, Pierpaolo Campanini, Francesco Gennari, and Karl Haendel, followed by spatial and visual dialogues among Stefano Arienti, Vincenzo Cabiati, and Livio Bernasconi. The final lake-facing room presents sculptures by Gianni Caravaggio, Flavio Paolucci, and Chiara Dynys, engaging with minimal, conceptual, and pop tendencies. The donation cements the Olgiatis' long relationship with Lugano museums; the installation was curated by Marco Franciolli, MASI director until 2017. The adjacent Spazio -1 continues to host exhibitions from the Olgiati collection.
