Old Overholt Extra Aged Cask Strength 11-Year Rye Returns

The James B. Beam Distilling Co. has released the fourth edition of Old Overholt Extra Aged Cask Strength, an 11-year-old rye whiskey bottled at 125.6 proof—the highest in the series. Distilled and barreled in spring 2014, the whiskey aged in three warehouses on the Clermont campus in Kentucky. Previous releases were aged 10, 11, and 12 years, with proofs of 121, 107.4, and 117 respectively. The brand's blending team, led by global associate brand manager Bradford Lawrence of Suntory Global Spirits, selects barrels from different warehouses to explore how age and proof affect flavor. Official tasting notes include vanilla, baking spice, tobacco, allspice, caramel, charred oak, and black pepper. Available this month at select retailers nationwide for $110 SRP. Old Overholt, owned by Beam since 1987, has seen upgrades including a proof increase to 86 and a four-year age statement in 2022, plus bottled-in-bond and limited age-statement releases. The brand originated as a Pennsylvania rye, honored by the 2024 A. Overholt Monongahela-style release.
