Olafur Eliasson's Fjordenhus: A Sculptural Building in Danish Fjord
Fjordenhus, the first building designed by Danish artist Olafur Eliasson and his architectural studio SOS – Studio Other Spaces, opened on June 9, 2018, in Vejle, Denmark. Rising 28 meters from the waters of Vejle Fjord, the structure serves as the headquarters for the Danish company Kirk Kapital. The building results from the intersection of four cylindrical volumes, punctuated by parabolic arches, and features a custom brick cladding with glazed, iridescent inserts. Landscape architect Günther Vogt designed the access walkway connecting the building to the mainland. Inside, Eliasson conceived Fjordenhus as a "total work of art," designing a dedicated line of furniture and lamps. The project was realized with architect Sebastian Behmann, co-founder of SOS – Studio Other Spaces, established in 2014.
