Olafur Eliasson Presents OE Quasi Light Lamp at Milan Design Week 2019
On April 9, 2019, Olafur Eliasson delivered a conference titled "On Art and Experimentation" at the Museo della Scienza e della Tecnologia in Milan, discussing his architectural projects, lighting art, and design. The event was organized by Gluck50 and curated by Maurizio Bortolotti, coinciding with the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci's death. During the talk, Eliasson referenced his 2003 installation "The Weather Project" at Tate Modern's Turbine Hall. The artist emphasized that the visitor becomes a co-producer of the artwork by applying their personal vision. He highlighted his ongoing engagement with light as a means to reinterpret reality, and noted that while nature and climate change are central to his research, science in relation to perceptual faculties remains fundamental. For the Milan Design Week, Eliasson designed the OE Quasi Light lamp for Danish brand Louis Poulsen, presented at the former Massimo de Carlo gallery on Via Ventura 5. The lamp uses an icosahedron geometric model for its 90% recycled aluminum external structure and a dodecahedron for the internal LED lighting body. Eliasson stated that the lamp combines mathematical precision with atmospheric lighting quality. He is scheduled for a major exhibition at Tate Modern from July 2019 to January 2020.
