Olafur Eliasson and Minik Rosing Install Melting Greenland Ice Clock in Paris for Climate Awareness
Eighty tonnes of free-floating ice from Greenland are being transported to Paris by artist Olafur Eliasson and geologist Minik Rosing. The ice will be arranged as a clock on Place de la République, where it will melt to highlight climate issues. This installation, titled Ice Watch, is part of the Artists 4 Paris Climate 2015 initiative, which involves international artists creating public works in the greater Paris area. Other artists contributing include Ernesto Neto, Taryn Simon, Edward Burtynsky, and Yin Xiuzhen. Their projects coincide with the Paris Climate Change Conference. Works from the initiative will also be sold at a charity auction. The effort aims to raise consciousness about environmental challenges through artistic interventions.
