Okuda San Miguel Paints Psychedelic Murals for International Church of Cannabis in Denver

artist · 2026-05-05

The International Church of Cannabis, a nonprofit spiritual center for adults who use cannabis for self-elevation, opened on April 20, 2017, in a converted early-20th-century church in Denver, Colorado. The Elevationists, as members call themselves, venerate THC as a natural enhancer for transcendental consciousness. They commissioned two international street artists to decorate the space: Los Angeles-based Kenny Scharf painted cosmic pop-surrealist murals on the external portals and a large trifora niche, while Spanish artist Okuda San Miguel covered the entire nave—vaulted ceiling and walls—with his signature geometric, prismatic, and mythological imagery in blazing colors. The church is also running a crowdfunding campaign to raise $100,000 for renovations. Okuda previously transformed a deconsecrated neo-Gothic church in Llanera, Spain, into the Kaos Temple skate park, also funded by a crowdfunding campaign.
