OJB unveils landscape plans for Washington Commanders stadium

architecture-design · 2026-04-29

OJB has just revealed their landscape architecture plans for the upcoming Washington Commanders stadium, designed by HKS. Set on a sprawling 180 acres in Washington, D.C., about 30 percent of this space will be used for both active and passive recreation. There will be a continuous walkway connecting plazas to the east and west, with the central Festival Plaza at 22nd Street Northeast serving as a vibrant hub for tailgating, markets, watch parties, and performances. OJB is making the most of the site's natural elevation by adding lawns, groves, and promenades. Jim Burnett, OJB's founder, highlighted the goal of creating a communal space that enhances health and well-being. The NCPC approved initial plans on April 2, with construction set to start in spring 2027 and finish by 2030. Renderings from HKS were shared in March, highlighting views from various angles.
