OGR Torino launches first summer season with cinema, jazz, and African music
Nine months after its inauguration, OGR Torino kicks off its first summer season on June 22 with an open-door event, OGR is more, running from 7:00 AM to 2:00 AM. The program features a video installation by filmmaker Davide Ferrario, Reverse angle, commissioned from migrants in Pecetto Torinese using smartphones, exploring perspectives on the Other. Artistic director Nicola Ricciardi emphasized integrating cinema with art. On July 12, the exhibition Forgive me, distant wars, for bringing flowers home opens, the first Italian institutional solo show for Iranian-born artists Ramin Haerizadeh, Rokni Haerizadeh, and Hesam Rahmanian, curated by Abaseh Mirvali, stemming from the OGR Prize awarded to Rokni Haerizadeh at Artissima 2017. On July 13, jazz concerts feature John De Leo Trio, Yamanaka Female Trio, and Diego Borotti NU4tet. From September, the Africa Now series presents three concerts: Tony Allen & Jeff Mills on September 22, Amadou & Mariam on October 5, and Bombino on October 19. General director Massimo Lapucci reported 170,000 visitors in the first nine months, including 30,000 children, calling OGR an international attraction. The new outdoor space Snodo, with containers referencing the industrial past, will host a stage for concerts next summer.
