OGR Torino Announces 2017-2018 Visual Arts Program
The Fondazione CRT launched the visual arts program of the new OGR (Officine Grandi Riparazioni) in Turin during the 57th Venice Biennale opening. The program, announced at the Hotel Bauer in Venice, includes a public art commission by William Kentridge titled 'Procession of Reparationists,' inaugurated on September 30, 2017, and curated by Castello di Rivoli. The same day marks the start of 'Big Bang,' a two-week reopening festival with music, visual arts, and performances. On November 3, 2017, concurrent with Artissima, the first major group exhibition 'Come una Falena alla Fiamma' opens, curated by Tom Eccles, Liam Gillick, and Mark Rappolt in collaboration with Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo. It occupies nearly a third of the 9,000-square-meter Manica Nord, featuring works from Patrizia Sandretto's collection alongside pieces from Museo Egizio, Castello di Rivoli, and Fondazione Torino Musei. In 2018, solo exhibitions by Tino Sehgal (his first in Italy since 2008), Susan Hiller, and Mike Nelson (a site-specific installation in summer 2018) are scheduled. A group show in collaboration with Castello di Rivoli is planned for spring 2018. OGR artistic director Nicola Ricciardi emphasized the program's international ambition, citing partnerships with New Museum and Walker Art Center, and a focus on hybridization between visual and performing arts.
