Oggetti Specifici: A New Turin Gallery Focused on the Creative Process
Oggetti Specifici, a new hybrid gallery-wunderkammer in central Turin, aims to demystify the artistic process by exhibiting sketches, preparatory studies, models, proofs, and unfinished works. Founded by director Caterina Filippini, the space draws its name from Donald Judd's 1965 essay 'Specific Objects,' referencing Minimalism's focus on spatial specificity. The gallery, which opened in May 2019, features dark green and pale pink walls and large street-facing windows inspired by Parisian passages, inviting passersby to explore. Filippini, supported by Barbara de Micheli (production) and photographer Romina Rezza, curates a program spanning sculpture, photography, painting, design, and installation. The space aims to attract both seasoned collectors and newcomers, offering an intimate, voyeuristic approach to art collecting. During Artissima 2019, Oggetti Specifici will host a daily 5 PM tea event to introduce artist Andreas Senoner, who will discuss his creative process. The gallery sustains itself through sales, positioning itself as a 'shop' for art objects. Filippini sees Turin, with its legacy of Arte Povera, as the ideal launchpad for the project, which she hopes will draw national and international attention.
