Oficina Brennand Launches Cultural Residencies and Celebrates 50th Anniversary with Major Exhibitions

Oficina Brennand in Recife, Pernambuco, is accepting applications until June 11 for two hybrid cultural residencies starting in July and August 2021. The residencies, 'Moldar o Existir: Vivências Mediadas pelo Barro' coordinated by Renata Felinto and 'Processos de Criação em Educação' coordinated by Gleyce Kelly Heitor, will each select six proposals from arts professionals nationwide. The institution, founded by artist Francisco Brennand, celebrates its 50th anniversary on November 11, 2021, with plans to become an international art reference modeled after Inhotim. New leadership includes former Inhotim artistic director Júlia Rebouças and former MASP operations director Lucas Pessôa, alongside a national advisory board featuring anthropologist Lilia Schwarcz, patron Frances Reynolds, MAM-RJ artistic director Keyna Eleison, and Tiago Pessoa of Morgan Stanley. A celebratory exhibition will feature 3,000 works by Brennand, alongside loans from private collectors and museums. Interactive installation 'Maracanarvera' by Ernesto Neto may be postponed to 2022, while Louise Bourgeois's 'Spider' will be exhibited on loan from Itaú Cultural. The institution is currently closed to the public under Pernambuco State Decree No. 50.433 from March.
