Officina82's TreeBOX: A Timber Treetop Retreat in the Ligurian Alps

Studio Officina82 has completed TreeBOX, a timber retreat elevated on four wooden posts among oak trees in Selucente, Garessio, Italy. The compact cabin, inspired by traditional Ligurian hay barns (barchi), features a sliding roof mechanism translated into an upward silhouette. Timber shingles cover the roof, walls, and underside, creating a continuous wooden skin. Inside, a sleeping area with full-height glazing faces the forest and distant Alps, while a suspended net forms a mezzanine beneath a skylight. TreeBOX is part of Selucente, a hospitality project reviving the alpine hamlet Alpisella at 1,000 meters altitude. Since 2020, architects Fabio Revetria and Lara Sappa, alongside partners Tiziana and Roberto, have restored existing stone buildings (chapel, Loft) and added new timber accommodations (StarsBOX, GlamBOX, TreeBOX). The project aims to reactivate marginal mountain areas through contemporary architecture informed by rural traditions.
