Officina della Scrittura in Turin celebrates first anniversary with street art show
The Officina della Scrittura, the world's first museum dedicated to the culture of writing and housed in the Aurora fountain pen factory in Turin, celebrated its first anniversary on October 1 with 10,000 visitors. To mark the occasion, the museum inaugurated the exhibition "Street Arts Volant!" curated by Ermanno Tedeschi, his third show at the museum's Scripta Volant space. The exhibition traces street art from the 1980s to the present, featuring works by international artists including Rammellzee (on loan from Avantgarden Gallery in Milan), Chaz Bojorquez, Etnik, Galo, and Opiemme. A permanent mural by the Truly group covers part of the 800-square-meter terrace, which will also host the museum's restaurant next summer. Cesare Verona, President and CEO of Aurora, noted the museum was built in thirteen months despite Italy's challenging business environment. Tedeschi remarked that what may seem like vandalism can reveal unexpected conceptual connections with traditional art, with the tag representing a graphic elaboration that transforms canonical lettering into a new pictorial image of uniqueness and identity.
