ODDO Architects expands TH House in Hanoi with alley-inspired extension

ODDO Architects has completed TH+ House, an extension to its 2021 TH House in Hanoi, Vietnam, on a neighboring 2.5-meter-wide plot. The design draws from the social intensity of Hanoi's urban alleyways, organizing flexible spaces around tall central voids and a bright red steel column that serves as both structural backbone and spatial organizer. The ground floor features a new kitchen, bathroom, and small courtyard flowing into the existing dining area, with folding glass doors opening to the alley. Upper levels include a living room, tea room, and bedrooms connected by internal windows and a bean-shaped opening. Perforated white-steel walkways link each level to the original house, allowing natural light to filter through. Exposed concrete and dark stone floors define lower spaces, while timber panels warm the upper levels. The studio, led by Nguyễn Đức Trung, Mai Lan Chi Obtulovičová, and Marek Obtulovič, won emerging architecture studio of the year at the 2021 Dezeen Awards. Photography by Hoang Le.
