Ocupação 9 de Julho hosts collective exhibition 'O Que Não é Floresta é Prisão Política' with 100 artists

The exhibition 'O Que Não é Floresta é Prisão Política' is presented at Galeria Reocupa, located within the Ocupação 9 de Julho, a building managed by the Movimento Sem Teto do Centro (MSTC) in São Paulo. The show features approximately 100 artists, including Lourival Cuquinha, Ernesto Neto, Renata Lucas, Marlene Bergamo, and Peter Pál Pelbart. It opened in September with 74 artists, expanded by 15 in October, and will add another group in November, running until at least the end of the year. The exhibition operates from Wednesday to Sunday, 2 PM to 8 PM. The 14-story building, originally the INSS headquarters designed by Jayme Fonseca Rodrigues and inaugurated in 1943, has been occupied since 1997, with the current MSTC-led occupation beginning in 2016. Artist collaborations have been organic since the start, with groups like O Aparelhamento helping organize community activities. The exhibition's title references current issues of forest survival amid fires and indigenous genocide, and political imprisonments including figures like Lula and Preta Ferreira. Works are sold to support the space and the occupation, proposing an alternative to conventional commercial art circuits. The gallery is part of a network including Casa Chama in São Paulo and Lanchonete<>Lanchonete in Rio de Janeiro.
