Ocean Space Venice launches new program with Taloi Havini installation and Territorial Agency exhibition
Ocean Space, the center founded in 2019 by TBA21–Academy inside the Church of San Lorenzo in Venice, has announced a new program titled "The Soul Expanding Ocean," curated by Chus Martínez. The program features a 22-channel sound installation "Answer to the Call" (2021) by Taloi Havini, an artist from the Autonomous Region of Bougainville in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The immersive work, on view until October 17, 2021, combines audio recordings, archival underwater sounds, ocean travel songs, and an instrumental piece by Bougainville musician Ben Hakalitz, inviting visitors into a theatrical setting inspired by Pacific Ocean colors. The second chapter of "Territorial Agency: Oceans in Transformation," curated by Daniela Zyman, runs until August 29, 2021, presenting research on global ocean changes in the Anthropocene. It will be activated during the Venice Architecture Biennale from May 22, 2021, with a spin-off project at the central pavilion "Sensible Zone" and a publication "OCEANS Rising." A second cycle of itinerant conversations titled "Venezia come modello per il futuro?" curated by Barbara Casavecchia and Pietro Consolandi explores the islands and margins of the lagoon, starting May 7 with marine biologist Lara Endrizzi and continuing every two Fridays at 5:30 PM until July. The next event on May 21 at Ocean Space features Marco Bravetti, founder of TOCIA! – cucina e comunità, discussing gastronomy, politics, and philosophy.
