OBER: new independent space for emerging research opens in Milan

institutional · 2026-04-26

Sara Oberhauser and Ivano Castelli, both artists, have founded OBER, a new independent space dedicated to emerging research in Milan. It opens on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Via Riccardo Galli 7, near Piazzale Lotto in the northern part of the city, a border area between traditional urban fabric and the transformations of the CityLife district. The space features modular walls that can be assembled and disassembled according to projects, allowing artists to shape the environment into coherent, immersive installations and exhibitions conceived as 'opera-spazio' (space-works). The program will alternate emerging and established artists, fostering cross-generational dialogue. OBER will also host public meetings, readings, and hybrid projects, with a focus on editorial collaborations with Tera Mata Edizioni, producing publications as extensions of artists' work. The opening coincides with a diffuse collective exhibition that began in Verbania and continued in Arona, featuring works by Paolo De Piccoli, Eleonora Mari, Sara Oberhauser, and Rocco Zappalà. On Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 6:00 PM, Maurizio Noris will present and read 'Resistènse, échi…', a collection of texts linked to the installation 'A Cüre Socane (Curo radici)', a poetic-artistic operation observing nature as a living organism. The founders describe OBER's vision as exploring the relationship between human and non-human, with nature as a field of relation and tension between belonging and exploitation.
