Obama Foundation selects TWBTA and IDEA to design Chicago Presidential Center
The Obama Foundation has announced the winners of its design competition for the Barack Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, Illinois. The joint venture of Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects | Partners (TWBTA), based in New York, and Interactive Design Architects (IDEA), based in Chicago, will lead the project. They were chosen from seven finalists, which were shortlisted from over 140 firms worldwide. Martin Nesbitt, President of the Obama Foundation, praised TWBTA for their commitment to creating an innovative center that inspires communities and individuals, and IDEA for their local knowledge and excellence in delivering large civic projects. The center will include a presidential library, a museum focused on Obama's presidency and contemporary issues, and spaces for programs supporting the Foundation's public mission. Over 15 other firms will contribute specialized expertise. The construction team will be appointed later. A completion date has not yet been announced.
