NYCxDesign 2017: New York's Design Week Becomes World's Longest
NYCxDesign 2017 has grown to encompass 21 days and features more than 500 events, establishing itself as the longest design week in the world. The festival, organized by the Economic Development Corporation, now takes place throughout most of May, transitioning from a trade focus to a cultural celebration that connects art and design. New York, with over 55,000 active designers, serves as a significant destination following Milan's Salone del Mobile. At ICFF, Joe Gebbia introduced modular seating for future office environments in collaboration with Bernhardt Design. Collective Design, which opened on May 3, showcases over 20 galleries and installations by Rockwell Group and Isamu Noguchi. WantedDesign emphasizes contributions from France, Argentina, Québec, and Catalonia. A Brush with Design, presented by Good Thing and Harry's, concludes on May 23. NYCxDesign continues until May 24.
