NYC Art World Slows Down for Summer with Exhibitions and Events

other · 2026-05-26

As Memorial Day weekend concludes, the New York art world enters its summer lull, but a packed schedule of events remains. Roberto Lugo's public sculpture 'Capicú de Cariño (I Heard It Both Ways)' is now on view in Madison Square Park, featuring hand-painted portraits of Bad Bunny and his parents. Betye Saar's collection of Black dolls is on display at the New-York Historical Society, a promised gift for her 100th birthday. Pioneer Works will host its annual Red Hook Regatta of 3D-printed boats on May 30. AIR Gallery celebrates its new space with a moving party on May 27, featuring Asia Stewart and DJ sets. The Stonewall Monument was named one of the most endangered historic sites in the US. Other events include a can redemption pop-up by Sure We Can, a sing-along screening of 'The Wiz' at the Schomburg Center, a cameraless filmmaking workshop at the Film-Makers' Cooperative, Africa Day at the Africa Center, a slide presentation on Tompkins Square Park by Eric Drooker, and the Uptown Arts Stroll on June 1.
