Nuvola Ravera: Photography, Dreams, and Family Archives

artist · 2026-05-05

Nuvola Ravera (born 1984) studied painting in Genoa and attended a two-year program at Bauer, beginning her career in documentary photography while collaborating with Giorgio Andreotta Calò. Her artistic research originates from her family, driven by psychotherapeutic needs, through a work-in-progress titled 'Erbario familiare'. She experiences hypnagogic states, which guide her in formalizing 'non-ordinary states of consciousness' through photography and installation. Ravera's practice encompasses performance, photography, and installation, often combining languages to stimulate inner life. She has participated in an Erasmus program in Leipzig and a residency at Bevilacqua La Masa in Venice. Her recent readings include works by Greenaway, Zambrano, Breton, Campo, Borges, Hillman, and Bourgeois. She cites films by Jarman, Antonioni, Korine, Fellini, Wong Kar-wai, Herzog, and Wenders as influences. Ravera created the cover image for Artribune Magazine #36, inspired by the idea that 'a drop of water can pierce the stone'.
