Nuoro exhibition restores Francesco Ciusa's national stature

A major exhibition at Spazio Ilisso in Nuoro, curated by Elena Pontiggia and supported by the Fondazione di Sardegna, presents around 90 works by Francesco Ciusa (1883–1949), including sculptures, ceramics, and graphics. The show aims to correct the reductive view of Ciusa as merely a regional artist, highlighting his role in European modernism. Key works on display include 'La Madre dell'Ucciso' (1907), which won the International Sculpture Prize at the VII Venice Biennale, as well as 'Il Pane', 'Il Cainita', 'La Filatrice', 'Il Nomade', 'Il Bacio', 'L'Anfora Sarda', and 'Il Fromboliere'. Ciusa's career spanned verismo, symbolism, and Art Deco; he also founded the SPICA ceramics manufactory in 1922. The exhibition runs until April 5 and includes a documentary by Enrico Pinna with music by Enzo Favata.
