Nuno Ramos Returns to Belo Horizonte with New Works and Malevich Erasure Project
Nuno Ramos presents over 15 works from 2024 at Albuquerque Contemporânea in Belo Horizonte in March. The exhibition includes a new project featuring three replicas of Kazimir Malevich paintings made from marble powder, which will be gradually erased by a mechanical rake moving three centimeters daily throughout the show. Ramos describes his stylistic journey as one of "gigantic diversity," working across painting, sculpture, installation, performance, theater, and writing since the late 1980s. His heavily layered paintings, often weighing substantial amounts, remain a constant in his practice. He cites Joseph Beuys and Anselm Kiefer as influences, particularly noting Beuys's use of animal fats. For 2025, Ramos plans to revisit his "Morte das Casas" project with Flavia Albuquerque, responding to recent floods. The artist also discusses creating a symphonic concert based on Glauber Rocha's film "Terra em Transe" with Eduardo Climachauska and Laura Vinci.
