Nucrè III Edition Explores Water Scarcity in Puglia's Trulli

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The third edition of Nucrè, a contemporary art festival in Ceglie Messapica near Brindisi, Puglia, focuses on water as a common good and the metaphorical concept of 'spartiacque' (watershed) in the era of climate change. Running parallel to ULIA Art Project 2024 at Galleria Fuoricampo in Ostuni, Nucrè was founded in 2022 by Rita Urso and Arechi Invernizzi of Artopia Gallery, Milan. This year's program includes two exhibitions: 'SpartiAcque. Storie intorno al pozzo' curated by Antonella Marino at Castello Ducale, and 'SpartiAcque. (Di)stanze vicine' curated by Marilena Di Tursi at Trullo Rubina. A residency by Giuditta Vendrame produced the drawing series 'Neviere', inspired by ancient underground icehouses used to store water during summer droughts. The Castello Ducale show features international artists including Andreco (Rain Drops series), Alexander Gutke (mirror installations), Claire Chalet (watercolors), Eva L'Hoest (video), Masbedo (video), Maia Marinelli (photography and video), duo Lucy + Jorge Orta (Life Line installation), and Alessandro Vizzini (minimal sculptures). At Trullo Rubina, a dialogue pairs four contemporary artists with four 20th-century masters: Elena Mazzi with Fausto Melotti, Rachele Maistrello with Giulio Turcato, Julie Béna with Aligi Sassu, and Marzena Nowak with Agostino Bonalumi.
