NUA Arquitectures completes Casa Juià, a contemporary Catalan farmhouse

NUA Arquitectures, a Spanish firm, has finalized Casa Juià, a 283-square-metre farmhouse located in the village of Juià, Catalonia, Spain. This project reimagines the classic Catalan masia style, utilizing local materials and craftsmanship. The design features three two-storey wings arranged in parallel, enveloped by porches and galleries, creating a series of interconnected areas that reach out toward the landscape. Built for a family of five returning to rural life after city living, the house emphasizes the link between the village and the adjacent cork, pine, and oak forest. The east-west orientation is designed to enhance sunlight and ventilation, while the north-south side has solid, energy-efficient walls. Locally sourced timber, ceramic, and lime mortar were selected for their durability and minimal environmental impact. Arnau Tiñena and Ferran Tiñena, the studio's co-founders, referred to the project as "a passage through the land," underscoring its strong ties to the local construction culture.
