Nu Genea Release New Album 'People of the Moon'
Neapolitan duo Nu Genea (Massimo di Lena and Lucio Aquilina) released their new album 'People of the Moon' on May 1, following a four-year hiatus since their last project. The album continues their Mediterranean fusion sound blending 1970s funk, polyinstrumental acoustics, and Neapolitan dialect. The cover art features sand colors, a crescent moon, and Arabic-inspired lettering. The duo's previous album 'Bar Mediterraneo' (2018) established their cross-cultural approach, with collaborations including French singer Célia Kameni on 'Marechià' and Arab-Tunisian artists Marzouk Mejri and Nadia Hmaidan on 'Gelbi'. Their 2016 debut 'Nuova Napoli' featured monochrome cover art by Guglielmo Corduas transforming Naples' skyline into bongos and tambourines. The duo draws on a tradition from Renato Carosone to Pino Daniele. The lead single 'Sciallà' preceded the album's full release.
