NTU CCA Singapore suspends exhibitions and residencies from March 2021, shifts focus to digital archive and publication
The NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore (NTU CCA), a prominent institution in Southeast Asia, will conclude its exhibitions and residencies at Gillman Barracks in March 2021. Under the direction of German curator Ute Meta Bauer, the center is set to launch an online benefit auction on 17 September, with bidding open from 1 to 18 October, aimed at funding a digital archive and a publication titled Climates. Habitats. Environments. Its last exhibition, showcasing films by Vietnamese-American filmmaker and academic Trinh T. Minh-ha, will be available from 17 October until 28 February. Although NTU CCA, supported by Nanyang Technological University and Singapore's Economic Development Board, will close its exhibition space at Block 43 and residency studios at Blocks 37 and 38, it emphasized in a statement to ArtReview that it is not shutting down but evolving to focus on virtual events and expanding its locations, including NTU's main campus, while maintaining its Public Resource Centre at Gillman Barracks. Over its seven years, the institution has presented solo exhibitions by artists like Amar Kanwar, Joan Jonas, Allan Sekula, Yang Fudong, and Charles Lim.
