Now Here Is Nowhere: Six Artists from American Academy in Rome at Italian Cultural Institute, NY
On November 7, 2017, the Italian Cultural Institute in New York opened the group show "Now Here Is Nowhere," curated by Christian Caliandro. The exhibition features works by six American and Italian artists who were Rome Prize Fellows and Italian Fellows at the American Academy in Rome: Carl D'Alvia, Tomaso De Luca, Jackie Saccoccio, Giuseppe Stampone, Eugenio Tibaldi, and Nari Ward. The show is a collaboration between the two institutions and follows earlier group exhibitions "The Idea of Realism" (2013) and "Concrete Ghost" (2014), part of the "Cinque Mostre" format promoted by the American Academy in Rome. The exhibition explores the paradoxical concept of "being-present-disappearing," presenting works that combine presence and absence. The curator's text states: "These are works that require themselves, and us, to remain in instability, to live in ambivalence and untimeliness, to deliberately choose uncertainty and precariousness (and not suffer them as a condemnation)." The show runs until December 5, 2017. On November 16, a talk moderated by Vivien Greene, senior curator at the Guggenheim Museum, will feature the artists.
