Notion Launches Developer Platform for AI Agents and Workflows

Notion has introduced a new Developer Platform that transforms its workspace into a hub for AI agents, enabling teams to build automated multi-step workflows, connect external agents, and sync data from any database via API. The platform, announced during a livestream on Wednesday, includes Workers—a cloud-based environment for running custom code in a secure sandbox—and supports external agents like Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and Decagon at launch. Notion co-founder and CEO Ivan Zhao stated, "Any data, any tool, any agent—that's the big picture for the Notion Developer Platform." The company first launched Custom Agents in February, and customers have since built over one million agents. The new platform addresses previous limitations where agents could not connect to external data or use custom logic. Workers use the same credit system as Custom Agents, but are free through August. The platform also includes a database sync feature powered by Workers, allowing users to pull in data from Salesforce, Zendesk, Postgres, and others. Developers interact via the Notion CLI, available on Business and Enterprise Plans. This shift positions Notion as a programmable platform competing with workflow automation tools, following the broader AI industry trend toward agentic tools that act across software platforms.
