Not Cancelled: Vienna's Digital Art Week Heads to Berlin

The virtual art week Not Cancelled, organized by Treat Agency (founded in 2012 by Istvan Szilagyi with offices in Vienna, Berlin, and Los Angeles), launched its first edition in Vienna involving 14 galleries and attracting 2,500 online visitors. The initiative features images of artworks, videos, and artist information. Istvan Szilagyi told artnet news that the project aims to support the community during closures, especially smaller galleries lacking resources for online programs. Gallerist Rosemarie Schwarzwälder noted the initiative is not a sales platform but generated media buzz and engaged the public with Vienna's gallery scene. The second edition is scheduled for Berlin from April 11 to 18, 2020. The broader context includes art fairs like Art Basel and Frieze moving online due to the pandemic, as well as museums and galleries (David Zwirner, Gagosian, Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, Massimo De Carlo) adopting virtual viewing rooms.
