Not a Number Architects' Treelithon Reimagines Greek Stone House Typology

architecture-design · 2026-07-29

Not a Number Architects has completed Treelithon, a holiday retreat in Chalkidiki, Greece, that reinterprets the traditional rural stone house as three interconnected monolithic volumes. The Z-shaped configuration follows the elongated, gently sloping plot, preserving mature pine and olive trees while complying with local building regulations that require attached volumes. The project combines family accommodation with short-term rental units to ensure economic viability. The design references a trilithon, with two upright edge volumes supporting a central horizontal element. The three dwellings span one, two, and three levels, each with distinct entrances, spatial rhythms, and framed garden views. Outdoor terraces with timber pergolas extend living spaces into the landscape. A long swimming pool defines the guest area, while a small pine canopy serves as a family retreat. The material palette features locally sourced stone for load-bearing perimeter walls, exposed in-situ concrete slabs, terrazzo floors with colored pebbles, and timber elements for windows, pergolas, sliding panels, furniture, staircases, and doors. Openings are carefully positioned to frame vegetation, control daylight, and enable passive cross-ventilation. The sloping terrain is integrated via a network of paved and stepping-stone paths. Lead architects are Ermis Adamantidis and Dominiki Dadatsi. Photography is by Alex Shoots Buildings.
