Nosadella.due, Bologna's First Artist Residency, Closes After a Decade

Nosadella.due, Bologna's first artist residency, is closing after ten years of operation. Founder Elisa Del Prete cites economic reasons and a need for project renewal as the driving forces behind the decision. The residency, located at Via Nosadella 2, will host a farewell party from October 6 to 8, 2016. Del Prete emphasizes the high costs of running residencies, the difficulty of securing private sponsors due to lack of direct visibility, and the bureaucratic and fiscal challenges faced by non-profit associations in Italy. She notes that while institutional support has been limited, meaningful collaborations have occurred with entities like the Accademia di Belle Arti, MAMbo, Ateliersi, Home Movies, Gender Bender Festival, and Fruit independent publishing festival. Past partnerships also include the ADA network with other non-profits such as 1:1, 26cc, Care Of, Lungomare, and Undo. Del Prete values the relationships built and the quality of work, but laments the transient nature of staff. Looking ahead, she plans to continue producing works, especially in public space, and mentions a project by Flavio Favelli titled "Gli Angeli degli Eroi," a mural listing Italian soldiers killed in foreign missions, which has yet to find a wall. She believes artist residencies remain relevant as spaces for research rather than production.
