Norwegian postal service releases Christmas ad featuring gay Santa Claus

Posten, the Norwegian postal service, has released a Christmas advertisement titled "When Harry met Santa" that depicts Santa Claus in a romantic relationship with a man named Harry. The video shows Santa meeting Harry while delivering gifts, and over subsequent years, their friendship deepens into love. Harry writes to Santa, "All I want for Christmas is You," and on Christmas Eve, Santa surprises him with a kiss. The ad concludes with the text: "In 2022, it will be 50 years since we could love whoever we want in Norway," referencing the 50th anniversary of the decriminalization of homosexuality in Norway. The spot has generated significant attention for involving a universal, child-friendly figure in LGBTQ representation. Writer Mats Strandberg, the real-life husband of actor Johan Ehn who plays Harry, tweeted about the ad.
