Northern Irish broadcaster Gerry Kelly dies at 77

Gerry Kelly, the veteran Northern Irish television and radio presenter, has died at the age of 77. He passed away at his home on Sunday morning. Kelly's career spanned four decades, most notably as host of his own weekly talk show on UTV from 1989 to 2005. The show attracted high-profile guests from television, music, politics, and sport, including Garth Brooks, George Best, and a young Rory McIlroy. He also presented a weekly programme on BBC Radio Ulster from 2009 and recently collaborated with Belfast Met students on a new chat show series, 'Tonight with Gerry Kelly', which aired for eight episodes on NVTV in December 2022. Colleagues and public figures paid tribute, describing him as a 'colossus' in broadcasting and a 'larger-than-life character'.
